The Clawless Lobsters Learning Week - QR Mexico
We did it! We spent a week in Quintana Roo, Mexico exploring the ins and outs of the Kanan Kay Alliance and have a lot to report back. We were graciously hosted by Marilu and Inés from the Kanan Kay Alliance. They organized a week of interviews, workshops, and a site visit to Punta Allen in the Sian Ka'an Bio Reserve, that really brought our project into focus. While in Punta Allen, we met with fishers from the Vigia Chico Fishing Cooperative. After a late night adventure in the rain, we woke up early to join the fisherman as they collected their lobster catch. We joined them as they free dove to retrieve lobsters from "casitas", small concrete shades, that are spread through out their fish concessions. Over all the week was full of late night discussions, good company, great food, and extensive learning. Now, Sarah and Camila are left behind in Puerto Morelos to complete the tasks at hand including collecting data, meeting with stakeholders, developing surveys, and creating a Cost Benefit Analysis Model... nothing too hards...right? the count down starts now....
Until next time,
the Clawless Lobsters
